Doctors from Oceania

Scott at powerline has this observation on the Muslim doctors seeking to become mass murderers, and how eerily reminiscent that moral inversion is to Orwell’s 1984.

I wonder what use George Orwell might have made of the form of Islam that inspired the attempted bombings in London and Glasgow. It seems that it may well have served as the state religion of the Oceania depicted in 1984, encompassing the inversions — war is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength — that formed its creed. Doctors seeking to become mass murderers. A contribution to civilization limited to perfecting the explosive vest. Worship culminating in aggressive war. Orwell would find no need to work any variation in a villain named Goldstein, though the Two Minutes Hate would require expansion.

Orwell’s original title for 1984, by the way, was The Last Man in Europe. Now the doctors’ Islam bids fair to be the the last religion in Europe.
