US Aid to the Palestinian Authority subsidizes terrorism

(Thanks to powerlineblog for this one.)

Please read this article, Abbas Approves Monthly Grant To Families of Suicide Bombers , on how the head of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, has signed a new law that gives PA money to the families of suicide bombers. This is disgusting. Here are a few of the details:

Under the new law, the terrorist’s family will be paid a base sum of $250 per month. The law takes into account extended family arrangements commonplace in Arab societies. The families of married terrorists are entitled to an additional $50 per month, and $15 are added for each child, $25 for each parent, and $15 for each brother who lived with the terrorist prior to his death.

The monies, to be paid out of the general budget of the Palestinian Authority, are significant sums for average Arab families living in Judea, Samaria, and Gaza.

The budget of the Palestinian Authority is largely subsidized by grants from European nations and the United States.

Israel also regularly transfers money to the PA. Much of that money is collected as customs duties on goods entering Israel bound for the PA, or for Arabs living under its jurisdiction.

Got that? The United States provides grants to the Palestinians who are now using that money as welfare for the families of terrorists. Don’t even try to tell me that “the PA isn’t directly using US money for this program.” The PA is “largely subsidized” by European and US grants, and the PA is doling out treasury for an entitlement program for terrorists; therefore, US funds support PA operations allowing it to subsidize terrorism. The US should immediately cut-off all payment, grants, etc. to the PA until this preposterous law is revoked. Israel should hold all customs monies bound for the PA, and use those funds to compensate victims of the PA’s-subsidized terrorism.
